What is Hypnosis
What Is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is defined as a deliberately induced state of mind in which the client becomes extremely aware, beyond the awareness of normal wakefulness. In this state the client focus of awareness is entirely upon the suggestions of the hypnotist. These suggestions if accepted uncritically go directly into the client’s subconscious mind and new thought patterns result.
Why Is Hypnosis So Effective?
Hypnosis is effective because is changes the thought patterns within the subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is the feeling, emotional part of you. For example, a smoker will have a thought pattern that they need cigarettes at certain times and in certain situations. If that thought pattern is changed then that person will not feel like smoking any more. That is why hypnosis is so effective, it changes the feeling mind. The ex-smoker is not feeling deprived. They will simply be happy to be a non smoker. The withdrawal symptoms will be very minor or non-existent.
The same is true for people who overeat. Once the thought patterns are changed then they no longer feel like overeating and will automatically lose weight.
Why Is Change Difficult Using Will Power Or Logic?
We know logically we should not smoke, we know logically we should not overeat. However knowing something logically does not change how we feel about something emotionally. If we don’t change the emotional / feeling thought patterns, knowing something logically is of very little benefit.
Most people, when they try to make a change use willpower. The try to suppress or push down the emotional / feeling thought pattern that they are trying to change. While they are pushing, they will change. However as soon as they stop pushing the emotions and feelings are back as strong as ever. This is why 95% of diets and most attempts at quitting smoking fail. Willpower is not designed for long term change. It is the wrong tool for the job.
We have a 30 min consultation with each new client we see. We discuss what changes the client wants and why they want them. During that consultation we give a full explanation of hypnosis. What it is, how it works and why it works. If we decide to work together we then start the first session.
Each session is tailored to the individual clients needs but this is a general guide:
You will be guided into a state of mental and physical relaxation. You are not asleep. Acceptable suggestions will then be given to the subconscious mind to change the old thought patterns to new thought patterns which you do want. This may last from up to 90 minutes depending on what we are working on to change.
