Imagine being able to recognise when you are likely to become angry and know exactly what to do to calm yourself down in an instant. How powerful would that make you feel, knowing you had complete control over your own emotions.
Can you imagine what would happen if a person who didn’t know how to drive a car got behind the wheel of a very powerful racing car. What distruction would take place if the car was not being controlled in the right manner? A similar situation can occur if a person goes into a rage, destroys things, lashes out either physically or verbally and leaves a trail of distruction behind them, then in the aftermat, realises what they’ve done and is filled with remorse or shame or guilt, etc.
If only I could learn how to focus on staying calm and relaxed when my buttons are being pressed, I hear you say. If only I could learn not to let the ANGER get the better of me. If only I could just allow my need to react agressively roll off me like water off a duck’s back. Why is it so important for me to have my say, to prove to ‘others’ that I am right?
